Blog Make sure your bar stays ahead of the pack with a fantastic facelift! With more than 10,000 pubs in the UK closing their doors since 2006 and wine having recently overtaken beer as the nation's most popular alcoholic beverage, our drinking habits are clearly shifting. Our increasingly busy lives and stretched household budgets have led to a surge in people shunning bars and pubs in favour of cosy dinner parties and nights in at home. The savvy landlord understands the need to adapt to shifts in culture in order to keep afloat; staying relevant, fresh and bang up-to-date is a key factor in this. A pub or bar refurbishment is, therefore, a great way of ensuring that your establishment stays ahead of the pack and encourages drinkers to go out instead of staying in and it needn't cost the earth. Here are our key tips for carrying out a fantastic facelift! 1. Look at the features of your space that lend it character and aim to really highlight them. Exposed beams and cornices are beautiful so ensure they stand out by contrasting them with pale, fresh paintwork on your walls. If you have a period fireplace, make it the centrepiece of the room by opening it up and creating an inviting area in which clients will love to gather. Maximise outside space by developing dead land into a children's play area or inviting beer garden. 2. Kerb appeal is vital! Your bar can look sensational inside but if the outside looks tired, punters will walk straight past. Ensure your entrance hall is light, bright and welcoming, windows are clean and in tip-top condition, and all of your signage is fresh and up-to-date. A new sign and a freshly painted exterior really can work wonders. Invest too in your outdoor furniture and plants, making sure they are in keeping with the style and atmosphere of your bar. 3. Toilets are frequently overlooked but really do need to be in top condition. There is nothing more likely to put off a customer than a poorly maintained, dirty toilet so ensure they are fresh, bright and clean with well-laid tiles, new basins and an appealing mirrored sink area. 4. Well thought-out lighting can transform a room from dingy to dazzling. By installing super bright LED spotlights and carefully choosing new light shades and lamps on your tables, you can brighten the room and create an atmosphere that customers will love. 5. The furniture you choose needs to fit in with your brand and bar atmosphere. Replace your dusty old barstools and benches with some comfortable sofas, snuggle seats and cool bar chairs to create an inviting space to welcome in your new clients!
