Blog How to choose the right colours for your shop design When choosing the colours for your shop design, you might be thinking about which colour scheme looks good to customers and best represents your brand. While these are undoubtedly important considerations, it's vital not to neglect the psychological impact different colours can have on customers. There have been many studies into the psychology of colour, and they've produced some interesting findings that might help you decide which colours will suit your brand and create the atmosphere you want. Warm colours Oranges, browns and other warm colours feel reassuring and inviting, and have been found to make customers feel happy. This will help to bring customers into your shop, and keep them there for longer. Cool colours Cooler shades like blues and greens produce a calming and relaxing effect. Blue can invoke a sense of trust and invoke memories of the sea, while green is associated with creativity and nature. This can help you to fit your colour scheme to your brand. Red Red is found to increase the heart rate and create a sense of urgency; this is why it's often used in sale signs. The colour red has been found to make people buy more, but should be used sparingly, as too much can make people feel irritable. Black Black is associated with power and luxury. High-end shops use this effectively to increase the sense of being in a deluxe environment. Too much, though, and it will quickly become overpowering. Yellow Associated with youth and positivity, including some yellow in your design can be attention-grabbing, and bring a sense of enthusiasm. However, it is not always a popular colour with shoppers. Pink Pink retains its association with romance and femininity, and can have a calming effect. Remember, however, that men are often conditioned from a young age to have an aversion to pink.
